Exploring Fiskardo on Foot: Ancient Paths and Hidden Coves
The northern peninsula of Erissos (where Fiskardo is located) is a hiker’s paradise. Because it survived the 1953 earthquake, you will walk past old stone ruins, Venetian mills, and traditional farmhouses that look like they are frozen in time.
The Three Main Paths
- The Cypress Trail: A lush route through cypress forests that connects the small villages around Fiskardo.
- The Battery Trail: This path leads to a WWII coastal battery. It’s a mix of history and stunning sea views.
- The Beach Paths (Kimilia & Dafnoudi): These are short, easy hikes (about 15-20 minutes) through the woods that lead to some of the most private, emerald-water beaches on the island.
What to Look For
Keep your eyes open for the old grape presses carved into the rocks and the small, hidden chapels along the way. These trails are mostly shaded, making them ideal for a morning walk before lunch in Fiskardo harbor.
